just as it says really. Not sure if local GC is best option/price and wondered what others do....

    Hi Scottish Newbie

I bought mine from Ebay, 50 (30 white shenshyu and 20 red electric) for £1.04 and 10 early purple garlic for £1.24. All safely planted and starting to grow. I'm really pleased with them and they arrived well packed and quickly. If you want them seller's name (I think he has more on) send me a PM.

I get my onion sets in Wilkinsons. Garlic too, if I have eaten all my own!

I used to get mine from Wilkinson, until I got white rot from them too.

This year I've paid the extra and bought from DT Brown

I've found that the garden centres are cheaper than Wilkos anyway.

If you deliberate too long, they'll all be gone.

I've bought from DT Brown the past 2 years but this year as i'm not wanting to order anything else the postage makes it too expensive. So i've bought exactly the same (Radar Onion sets) from my local garden centre. Not only do i save on postage (£3-4) but the sets themselves were cheaper too.

Local small GC sells them loose, pick your own then there is only you to blame for the failures, I was seduced last year at another GC with a buy 2 get one free offer but only about 25% of these grew.

                        P&P is a major put-off.
I only ordered the onion sets from them because I was also ordering raspberry canes

Our Allotment Society always buys in a large bag of red and white overwintering onions - this year its Radar for white and electric for red. Sold at 60p per 250 gram - lots to plant and very cheap with decent results
