  • Asparagus question

I bought 3 asparagus crowns in LIDL the other day and am keep to get them planted.

I've dug loads and loads of manure into the bed I have earmarked for them and also removed all the stones and weeds I can find.

Is it ok to plant them now? I'm kind of confused as I've read lots of posts that say not to plant till March/April - but if that is the case, what on earth am I going to do with them till then> they are only in wee green platic bags!

    Hey Scottishnewbie!

I'm not going to do technical jargon at you, but I would like to know if you can let us know if your asparagus roots are properly 'growing' with green ferny growth on top of the soil, or if you've basically got some dead kind of fingers in a bag of dry peat?
And once we know that, we can answer your questions as fully as you like.X

      Hey Scottishnewbie,

I asked pretty much the same question last week, and Paulottie was able to offer some great advice. See this thread.

2 of them have def got top growth (one has about 4 inches) but not fern-like. the other one looks like it might like to but doesnt quite have the energy yet!

and being LIDL, they arent in a bag of peat - just the roots!
