Growing hydroponically this year, so start off in rockwool then into a hanging basket that can take 3 plants. Can't do the early onion sowing as my compost is frozen and will only be fit for growing lettuce in. Unless of course you can start onions off in rockwool? Chillies will be started January, in rockwool then into Acorn Pots (the ones I want to overwinter).
We'll be starting it a few days after the big day......whereas the onion one will be on Monday....

so last Monday I sowed a pinch of 'Long Red of Florence' onion seed for the non-lunar part of the trial, and this Monday I'll be sowing another pinch for the lunar bit.

Excuse my ignorance but for a trial to have any meaning don't growing conditions have to be the same? If they were sown a week apart then the conditions are not the same, regardless of the moon.

Just an observation and I'll probably get slapped for it

Not if you are trialling the sowing conditions themselves, SC! The variable is the date and the control is the seed, the compost and the way it is done.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Thats the way I see it also Jeanie............

You lot have got me itching to do something gardening related. I'm snowed in at the mo with all my seeds for the year handily beside me...........the problem is the seed trays and compost are at the allotment! GGrrrrrr!

Just some mung beans in the seed sprouter yesterday. Hey, it doesn't take a genius to 'grow' them, but it's still satisfying having something, ahem, 'homegrown' during winter.

I've put some Puy lentils in my spouter this afternoon, they'll be nice and crunchy in a salad later on in the week.

I sowed some chilli seeds on 15th Dec in a heated propagator in Jiffy 7s. They were old seeds I had left over from last year, but only 2 varieties haven't come up. All were seeds from the chilli parcel or other swaps, so I don't know how old some were. I have chocolate and peach habs, purple gusto and purple tigers, dorset nagas, and purple jalapenos. They will stay inside all winter, I have space for up to 25, and only 13 are up so far, so fingers crossed.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

                                Lots of lovely onions yesterday.

For me it's now officially Spring!
