I've tried it and noticed no apreciable difference to using tomato feed.

Yes, Chris, it's a yellow cherry - that's what the German name means - and it is hot! I made a sort of chilli marmalade using yellow tomatoes, Gelbe Kirschen and yellow squash last year - I call it Yellow Peril since every so often you get a piece of unadulterated chilli in your mouth and it's a bit of a surprise!

      • Although it doesn't get as cold here during our Winter as it does there, my seedlings still manage to get to a salable size in the 6-8 weeks I allow between sowing and selling. I usually like to sow a mix of hot and sweet, usually around 300-400 seedlings each year.

Thanks, mine didn't mature in time, as with jacbos!

            Some other observations:
            - second sowing in March didn't really work, the plants weren't mature until early Sept which is too late up here.
            - aubergines were in the greenhouse, the couple I put outside didn't grow leaves, nevermind aubergines
            - as with chilis, the mid-March to early-May period where you've got to take them out to the greenhouse in the morning and bring them back in evening is a pain in the @rse.
            - I wonder if I would have got a better crop if I'd picked more aggressively, like corgettes.
            - it's all organic up in my garden, feed coming from wood ash, worm juice and a dubious organic tomato feed; you'd probably get a better crop with chemicals, but...
            - we had a lot of sunshine May/June/July, which must have helped, August was horrid, which probably didn't, especially as a big ole tree blocks the sun from about 14:30.
            - oh yes, and they were in big, big pots.
Thanks for the pointers, I'll try aubs in pots this year, have a few large ish pots that I had 4 cayennes in per pot last year.

            • My chillis aren't up yet but have just done a seed swap with someone on another forum and they have sent me:

              Suttons chilli pepper hot stuff
              Prairie Fire
              Scotch bonnett
              Chocolate Habs
              Cayenne
              Whit Habs
              Bishops crown
              chilli long type
              yellow pointed habs
              peach habs

Wow, i'm so chuffed, I feel really guilty as I only swapped them a couple of packs of seeds!

I have a little space in the prop!

                • Got my first seedling up today; the one I put in the work boiler room. Its lovely and warm in there, with just enough light. Been wondering what else I could get in there...

                            • All my Jalapeno, Cayennes, and sweet peppers are up and out of the propagator so I'm just waiting for is the Scotch bonnet Orange habs. Looking at last years journal they 'should' be up in 2 days time.

                              • Mixed results here, so far from the 20 i've sown over the two batches I've now got the following seedlings...

                                2 x Bell Pepper Orange
                                2 x Bell Pepper Misc
                                1 x Sweet Red Cherry
                                2 x Marconi
                                2 x Cayenne
                                2 x Red Cherry Toms
                                1 x Cerise Toms

So 12 out of 20, sure I had better germination rate last year. Will resow and maybe use some vermiculite this time. Also off to get me another heated prop this week so I can get another batch up and running.
