  • Sorry to hijack but I thought this would be a good place to ask if anyone has a couple of Bolivian Rainbow seeds they could spare. I don't have anything exciting to offer in return but I will bung a stamped envelope to you for them

    • Is it OK to put chilli seedings in an unheated greenhouse in a heated propagator without the lid on?

      • Chillies need a constant temp of at least 16c Davy (day and night)

        • Thanks TS, but that doesnt really answer my question. Would the heated prop generate enough heat to keep them happy?

          • Davy, I don't know what temp your greenhouse or your prop is....?

What I mean to say is, if you can't provide a steady heat of 16c, then no it isn't suitable.

TS - Thats pretty useful to know. My heated prop is sometimes getting up to and over 25c, any idea if that will that cause any detriment?

Unheated greenhouse in Tyneside? I wouldn't leave any chilis out there at night until May, maybe could gamble in mid-April. I would germinate inside.

                  • Another 2 lemon drops, 1 purple venezualan and 2 pretty in purple had popped up this morning! Can't believe how quickly they emerge over night - there was definately none visible at 11 last night.

Was certainly interesting that the self saved seeds came up first. And 100% germination. But... there was no attempt to stop cross polination, so what will actually grow? Answer here, in late July...

                              • I've had lots germinate so far which is great. But two are concerning me; after 20 days, no sign of prairie fire or rocoto orange. The prairie fire took 13 days to germinate last year, so I'm concerned it may be old seed. And I'm really disappointed as I loved last year's plant but for various reasons, didn't successfully overwinter it. I have some seeds left, but if the first batch didn't work, there's no reason why these should.

As for the rocoto orange, I've never grown these before - does anyone have any idea of their germination period?

                                Thanks
