Don't worry, it didn't go to waste.

I sowed some seeds today but didn't really know what to do with them once they come up. Hada general idea but your reply has given me a lot more confidence that I partially know what I am doing lol

    So thanks from me too.

This year I am using small pots and sowing one to a pot so that I can take each one out of the airing cupboard and into the light as they germinate.......same for chillis as well

      Oh and thankyou MrPH.Good luck

        Thanks binley

I do have another question for anyone who can help. I have planted my tomato seeds in modules and put them in a clear plastic bag. I don't have any windowsills or very bright areas indoors but I do have one of the small 4 tier mini greenhouses (blowaways I have seen them called ) just outside the back door (south facing).

I know that the seedlings are going to get leggy and I like the tip about planting them up to their leaves when potting on, but once that is done can they go into the blowaway? I could put a propagator lid over them for extra protection.

The other point that concerns me then is that only the top shelf of the blowaway gets full light as the others are shaded by the contents of the shelf above. Is that a problem of will there be enough light?

It will be too cold in a blowaway for at least the next 8 weeks MR PH. Which is why we only grow what we have space for indoors for the foreseeable future.

            May I join please?
I didn't think I'd have much luck germinating tomatoes in winter since our house is so cold, but binley's airing cupboard idea has been a revelation to me
I wonder whether I could empty the airing cupboard tonight without waking Grumpy

I thought that might be the case. Not to worry, I have a shelf in the shed which I will fit just below one of the bedroom windows. Sure the Mrs will love that idea.

I got very carried away planting toms with my son the other day. We had got two sets from poundland (seeds, compost and a small propogator) we sowed the seeds less than a week ago and they're already popping up on the window sill.
It occured to me today that perhaps 40 Roma and 50 cherry toms may be a few too many! What do you think?!!
