I've sown 6 Marmande toms in my heated propagator this afternoon using B&Q seed compost, rest of the space is taken up with Chilli's and aubergines

Well I've still only got three germinated, but today I potted on (and sunk) the first three up.......

I have had 4 of my 6 come thru, and still waiting on the other 2.

they are older seed.....is there a good tip for germinating older seed?. they would have been acquired in 2008.
of the 4 that have come thru 3 is new seed from last year...brought or saved, and the 4th saved from 2009.

what do you do with the seedling once they are up?, when do they need feeding? how moist should the compost be?, when do they go into the unheated greenhouse? do they get transplanted into a specific growbag etc..?

so many questions how will i get any sleep???

OK BT this is what I do.........(it might not be right but ....) Mine are started off in the airing cupboard as I haven't the luxury of a heated prop, when they pop up I move them onto the kitchen windowsill.......When they start to look a little leggy I repot them but pot them loser so the seed leaves aren't much higher than the level of compost....then I put them in the conservatory which is unheated but warmer than the green house and just cover them at night. (I haven't much windowsill room in the house) .....They don't go into the GH until March/April time ..obviously as they get bigger( when I see a root poking out the bottom of the pot) then I pot them into the next size up until they are big enough to go into my growbags . (which I cut in half and stand on end ie two deep pots from one grow bag) I start feeding when the first fruit start to appear and then feed them about twice a week. They don't get much water until they start to flower .....just stand them in a tray of water for a drink when the top of the compost seems to be drying out.
