Leeks for tea tonight

I harvested the 9 little leeks today that I grew on in a pot. There wasn't enough room for them in the flower bed when I transplanted the rest of the leeks last year. They are Musslebrough

Still, they will do very nicely as "baby leeks". And once cleaned up they look perfect.

Really looking forward to digging the biguns up for leek & potato soup soon.

I have had some good leeks this year but one bed has been decimated by the cold weather. I have looked for the lable to see which ones they were but can't find it. Just wanted to make sure I didn't grow any next year.

Just dug a dozen leeks up for Leek and Potato soup for this evenings dinner, they are a little smaller than those photographed thanks to the cold, but they look perfect.

We too had leeks today from the allotment

My OH made a soup with them in a thai stock with added noodles yum, yum, yum
They have to be one of my favourite veggies!

For those of you whose leeks survived unscathed - what variety did you use? Ours are all mushy from the top to about half way - so not completely knackered but not great either. My cunning plan for next year was to use musselburgh- until the site veteran told me all his musselburghs were goners too. Hrumph. Stupid snow.

I grew Musselburghs and mine have survived fine. Mind you, its pretty mild in this corner compared with other places in the UK. We got snow, but not tonnes of the stuff.

If the larger leeks in the flower-bed turn out as good as these little ones have then I may be growing leeks again this year. I'll stick with what I know - Musselbrough.

My meal that evening contained, amongst other ingredients, home-grown carrots (frozen), fresh home-grown baby leeks, and a couple of home-grown chillies (frozen).
