when to use rotted horse manure

I have a bag of well rotted horse manure i keep hearing people say you should dig it in now for the spring/summer but isnt it a waste since there isnt nothing growing.

isnt it best to dig it in like 2 weeks before you plant anything out?

I spread mine on beds as they become empty (apart from where root veg will be grown ) and leave it for the worms to dig in ...........well if there's nothing growing then nothings using it and the beds are ready prepared for the important job of getting all those veg in at a very busy time in the growing schedule..

My empty beds have been covered with well rotted horse manure since late autumn too .... as soon as they became empty, I dug them over, weeded and removed stones. Its kept them weed-free too! Fingers crossed I wont have much work to do when I want to start planting The allotment is new and never been used till I did last season ......

My root veggies are going to go into my newly aquired bath tubs, so Im safe there

Compost and manure are not fertilizers, they are soil conditioners. If you apply the horse muck to the soil it will aid water retention and help with the release of nutrients already there. It does contain small amounts of NPK and trace elements but it should be applied in addition to a general purpose fertilizer.
