Oca crop

How did other peoples oca crop get on last year?

I dug mine up yesterday and I had one usable tuber from 25 plants, there were a few small ones on the very big plants, but they had all rotted due to the cold weather.

So not a good year for me, the weather was completely wrong for the oca to work.

I think I'm going to have to give it a miss from now on, it was a large area for me to do an experimental crop and turned out to be a big waste of time and space.

Maybe I dug them up a little late, but the cold weather came so quick it caught me out.

Same here. I haven't even tried to dig them up yet, the allotments are a mud pile! However, by autumn the plants were smaller than last year because of the dry summer. Like you, I suspect I won't grow them again. I haven't got space to waste.

Oh no!!!!!! Ive just ordered my first tubers (only 6) after missing out for 2 years!!! Feel a bit crest fallen now!

out of six plants i had pasta bowl filled, dug them up saturday, still trying to work out how to cook them.

now talk about p***nips, fantastic crop!!!!!

do not think i will bother with the oca next year, but interesting to try

As I got caught out the previous year by frost, I only had one tuber to plant in a bucket last year. As soon as the cold spell started, I harvested a reasonable crop and still have some sitting on the windowsill, waiting to be eaten. I quite like the sharp flavour which will be retained provided you just heat up the tubers and keep the crisp texture.

I had half a pound from one plant (only got the one tuber) in November. Saved them all to plant out this spring.
