I've got 2 types of toms, one, Roma I think, is doing well, they germinated frirst and are stocky little things, sprouting new leaves. The others, some sort of cherry tom, germinated a week later and are already twice the height of the others. I've got the room to keep them all (husband would disagree!) for as long as they need. I'll try the tin foil. Thanks for the advice.

They're mostly chilli seeds. More an impatient experiment really, and had access to a nice south facing double glazed window above a rad. My winter salads did a similar thing, so was curious.
Will leave it a few more weeks before sowing.
Thanks all.

When light levels are low you will also benefit from reducing the heat around the seedlings.
Heat makes the seedlings grow rapidly and they will grow upwards seeking light.
If you reduce the heat you will reduce the rapid growth and stop legginess.
Radiators often get too hot and give more heat at night than during the day which is the wrong way round!!
Remember to provide a warmer temperature during the day and allow it to cool over-night; do not get too warm or too cold though, prob 16 to 18 degC during the day and 12 to 14 degC during the night.
Also, do not have seedlings in a lit room at night - they need darkness to fully stop growing. The proof of the growing is in the eating.
Leave Rotten Fruit.
Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!
Il n'est si méchant pot qui ne trouve son couvercle.
