Just a quickie, i've checked under some weed suppressant membrane we placed 9 months ago (the cheaper stuff from a home and garden store) and it hasn't exactly killed off the weeds (some are even lush green new growth growing sideways). When I checked under the expensive stuff I brought online as recommended from here , I have dead/nearly dead weeds laying there but mostly soil. As i'm wanting to grow through the cheaper stuff first with sowing from March onwards (as its shelf-life is considerably lower than the good stuff). So could I
1) use up my compost heap now and place a no light layer over the weeds and then re-cover with the suppressant hoping they will die off in the 4-6 weeks until the frosts have gone?
Or
2) should I just dig out the bigger weeds as I sow and plant out in March ie dig out weeds on a Saturday, plant and sow on the Sunday?
Or if neither of those are viable,
3) should I dig out the weeds this weekend (or some point nearer planting time but not right on top like option 2) then re-cover the soil ready for the indoor sowing's.
Finally, am I right in that I can't sow seeds under the membrane as they need the sun such as carrots?
thanks in advance
