Hi, I sowed some off my chilli seeds I had from last years crop. They have germinated after two weeks. I let the fruits dry naturally and am quite sure that the six plants I had all got pollinated. So should i be confident that this years crop will produce fruits? Or should I sow afew back up plants just incase?

Chillies are self-pollinating, they have produced the fruit (chilli) and so you can sow seeds from these chillies (as long as the chillies were 'mature' ie ripe)...

If well tended for your chilli plants should thrive and will produce fruit just like last year. If you had mixed varieties then some cross pollination may have occurred and the fruit may exhibit characteristics from both parents.Comment

What variety was last year's crop?
If it was an open-pollinated variety you should be fine (provided there was no cross pollination from other varieties nearby). However, if it was an F1 variety you may well be disappointed with a crop from saved seed.K's Garden blog the story of the creation of our gardenComment

i have failed 3 years running with chilli's, so can anyone recommend a good robust seed?
The plants always grow, but never fruit, and I always get littrle annoying flies around them, which to my eternal embarrasment I have read is due to oberwateringCome and take a look at my new lottie, leave some comments, all advice/suggestions grabbed with both hands!!
