I have lots of little cloves of garlic left from last year's harvest. Is it worth splitting and planting these do you think, or shall I just cook them?

If you plant small cloves you'll get small bulbs which will be even more small and fiddly and annoying garlic to cook with than you already have. Personally I wouldn't as I tried it once and it's true what they say. But if small bulbs don't bother you then wang em in

I'd plant them close and most likely in a pot to save room and use them small for green garlic. Just slice fresh as you would a spring onion (removing anything that seems a bit tough such as the centre or outer layer of the bulb) and add to whatever you are cooking with it.
(and I have a Really odd image stuck in my brain now about planting garlic )Last edited by Rabidbun; 16-02-2011, 05:29 PM.

It is always the same we start on one subject then half way down it turns into something else, really funny. I shall never think of planting garlic in quite the same way, I am going to look if mine is up (the garlic that is) hee hee hee

This is the first year I have tried growing Garlic.
I have 'wanged' it in quite shallow(tips just showing above compost), in pots for now with m/p compost.
The bulbs have been in around 6 weeks (afetr being left out in the cold garage for three weeks).
I have good root growth (having been very careful to inspect one of the bulbs) but absolutely no growth at the top... is this the norm??
thanks
