  • fleece quality

Last year I used a fleece for the first time. I was a little disappointed as it was in shreds within weeks.
    I got mine from B&Q
Has anybody had the same problem with their fleece?
Are there different grades of fleece that I can use and where to get it?

I gave up on fleece and started using voile, although that shreds after a couple of seasons too

I have found that cats and foxes hate fleece and will shred it. There are different weights of fleece. The 30gsm one is much stronger. Garden Organic do one they call Envirotect, bit more expensive but they say it will last five years.

I get mine cheap and cheerful from Wilkinsons. It does ok. When the most exposed shredded I didn't mind because I could replace it cheaply. Like TS, I started using voile (I had my windows replaced so I had lots to recycle).

Voile - that's a good idea. I've some new stuff in the loft from when we cleared out MIL flat - not sure what neighbours will think of burgundy colour though. LOL. Also thought I would look for net curtains at car boots etc. Last year I got a couple of inner tents - mosquito nets - they were brilliant with the poles too.

My fleece is 1.5M wide 30 gsm and has done two seasons already, and no signs of wear. I'm not good about looking after it carefully! it came from seller "annes_garden" on eBay - if they are still trading there.

I tested one out last year that had woven polythene strips woven in to it. It was about to be sold as 'Veggiethrow'. Not sure if it's out there yet.

Allowed light and water in but kept pests out.

Went in to poundland today to check out their garden stuff and they had 3 different fleece's but at the same price???

                  (1m x 6m) Plant Protection Fleece Blanket | Poundland
                  (1m x 10m) Tomato Plant Fleece Cover | Poundland

and another that was 1.5m x 6m. All seem to have the same gsm.

I went for the tomato one as there's more of it and will use it for my carrots For £1 extra to protect the carrots, it can't be too bad.
