  • Can my onions go out?

I sowed a couple of trays of onions at the end of last month. The compost in the tray of Ailsa Craig was completely covered in white mould within a few days (looked as though a horde of hyperactive spiders had been at work) so I chucked it, but the Ishikuro onions seemed OK.
Today the mould has started to grow on their compost.
Can I put them outside now (without any hardening off)?
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.

I'd say you would be risking their survival putting them ouside at this time of year without hardening them off.

You really do seem to have used some duff compost. I''d be for getting the plants out of there quick style. Wash all that compost off the roots and then transplant into fresh sterilised compost. They should grow away fine until the normal time for hardening off.

Aye, I'll never buy Asda's compost again.

I don't think my fingers and shoulders will cope with pricking out 111 onions (or however many have germinated by tomorrow)
