plastic to cover germinating seeds?

Hi there
Has anyone any suggestions for on what to use to cover seeds in pots and trays to keep in moisture and also allow light in?
I thougth of buying acrylic sheets, but seems expensive and I imagine others have better and cheaper methods....?

Over pots, I use sandwich bags & over trays just buy the clear hoods, they are really cheap.

I use the trays with hoods for things like peppers and aubergines, but for everything else I just use cling film wrapped around the tray with a few holes poked in it. Once the seeds have germinated I pull it off. It's worked fine so far.

Cling film works

You have to remove it as soon as the seedlings pop up, or they'll get mouldy

I've used cling film for my chillis this year, and it has worked fine.

Used clingfilm for my Brussels Sprouts and they've come up lovely. Did wonder when to remove it though but used common sense and did so when their seed leaves came through. Should it be even earlier ie as soon as the shoots break out of the soil?

I use cling, plastic or a cut up plastic bottle depending on the tray/pot.

I use clear plastic oblong food trays you get with things like supermarket Minced meat. I use them for seeds too.. i have just sown some leeks in a deep blue plastic mushroom tray with a clear meat tray for the lid.. works a trea and cost NOWT.. they can be be used several times before they go into the recycle bin.

I use the free plastic bags you get in supermarkets for putting loose fruit and veg in. Every year I just grab a load, hang them above where I sow in the greenhouse and just pull one off when I need one. For seed trays I use 2 put on at either end and overlap in the middle, for pots I just place the pot inside the bag and tie a knot with the plastic pulled taut over the top of the pot. Works for me

I keep the plastic wrappers that cover magazines that come free with newspapers, usually on the weekends, and cut to fit then hold down with a loose elastic band.
