If I sow peas now can I prevent pea moth?

I am trying to prevent pea moth and wanted to try early and late sowings to avoid the pea moth season, I have kelvedon wonder peas. If I start them now will I avoid the main part of the season or will they be in flower in the midst of it all?

Also I am thinking of germinating them in a tub on some damp kitchen towel, primary school style, will it work or wont they like it?

The round seeded are best for early sowings but around now you might get away with the sweeter, wrinkled seeded ones. Do you have a greenhouse or are they going in the ground? You can germinate on paper if you wish. I don't find it necesary but some like to do it. Matter of preference. Good luck. Pea moth is worse for the maincrop peas, not the earlies.

My Kelveton wonder will be going in next week, they wiil start as plug plants in the GH and then go into 3" pots before finally into my trough's. Hopefully they will be ready for havest late May early June.

If all goes well a second setting will take place Mayish in the hope of a late crop.

Your crops will need protecting from end of May to end of July ish. I've tried early and late sowings, but I also throw some fleece over the flowers at the riskiest time. Last year I had a really good crop, we still have some in the freezer

I've got some in loo rolls that are now about 4" high. I'll grow them on a bit longer before they go into the ground.

I've got my first lot of peas due to be planted in the polytunnel this weekend and my second lot which will be going outside are just germinating now in drainpipes - will be slid into the ground, each section is about 18" long so they're a manageable length. I find chitting a pain and it's a lot easier to acutally sow them and get them going properly before planing out.

Re pea moths, you don't get them round here and they're not a problem everywhere so it's worth checking if you have a problem before you get too worked up about it - fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for all your ideas and tips, I am going to fleece them just to be on the safe side. I have now sown some into pots to grow up trellis and have had a go at chitting some just for fun (because I truely am six at heart)
