Another question. I read that putting the seedlings near a desk fan for about 15 minutes a day on a light speed, promotes strong thick stem growth. Is there method in this crazyness?

      Please?

It's true that plants grown with a breeze of some kind produce stronger stems than those left alone.

15 mins on high speed is a bit too vigorous a breeze though... you can just stroke your hands across the seedlings to produce the desired effect.

I too stroke my hand across the seedlings. It makes them think there's a bit of a breeze and they thicken up. There's also something very therapeutic about being in touch with the seedlings .....

ah i didn't mean high speed, low speed with some kind of wind breaker between them and the fan, would this be better for them?

Why use a fan at all? Just use the palm of your hand - low tech works

Not much light in my house then! We have no front garden and the front is overlooked by other houses, so blinds always shut. Back of house is mostly shaded by other houses/buildings, with no garden (in summer the sun sits above the pots long enough for them to grow well though), the only rooms that get any light at all this time of year is my room and flatmates room - and even then its not that much. I didn't get one until I was 40 - I'd lived in horrible rented flats until then - so frustrating

I do it whenever I remember, maybe once a day, maybe once a week. It's really not that important

Talk to them - warmth and breeze if you're gabby enough!

Still no movement on mine after 6 days so i've put them in the airing cupboard to try and push them on. More so now i know seeds need warmth to germinate, not light

At last first of both tumbler and sungold through today. It is always a relief when things germinate.
