Winter onions and garlic

Hi,

This is going to sound, well it is a bit of a silly question really, but i'm still a newbie to this so bear with me!

In Nov/Dec i bought some Japanese Onions and some Garlic that was meant for planting from Nov-Jan. I had a lot on and forgot all about them to be honest until i came across them the other day!

Is it worth me planning them now or should i buy different varieties that can be planted now?

Bit late for your onions but if you get your garlic in now they should be ok - maybe a bit smaller than if you had got them in earlier. Now is the time to sow onion sets, just not your overwintering Japanese variety.

I've sown garlic at this time of year in the past and it's been very small and pathetic, rather a pain to peel but still tasty.

As long as the onion sets are not going soft and mushy they will still grow, but maybe not as big.

Thanks for the advise. I think i'll put all the garlic in and some of onions and see how they get on.

you can alway plant the onions closer together and use them as spring onions
