I have some seed compost and its quite lumpy, have done the crumbling technique as it wouldn't pass through a sieve if I tried (was quite damp even in the bag). Hopefully the seeds will be OK - I have bought a tray of compost into my warm bedroom to dry out so I can sieve it over my strawberry seeds next week as they are very small...
I've got a bigger garden sieve but its designed for siving out stones and twigs etc. Hopefully the seeds will be OK - it is all an experiment

Never sieved any bought stuff although do crumble between my fingers and pick out any twiggy bits - note I use MPC for everything. Do riddle my compost though and have a very good device which you turn the handle on and force it through. Makes it much quicker to get through the whole compost heap and chuck the big bits back in for the next sieve.

I sieve the homemade compost through a plastic soil sieve - just to get the twiggy bits out and to find the bits of plastic/rubbish that seem to find their way in there. I find it quite therapeutic on a warm day.come visit a garden
