    Having re-read this thread, I'm glad I sowed some caulies today, that will be interesting.

      Ok, today I have planted out three lavender plants and sown more sweetpeas and caulies (ATYR). I've also made a list of the jobs I want to get done and which days they need doing;

      Wednesday (leaf) pot up willow and dog wood cuttings, sow salad, kale and cabbage

      Friday (fruit) plant some of the rasberry and black currant cuttings I have (this is a must do job as haven't managed it all month) and sow peas

        Indeed - keep a diary. We should record our findings.

          All sounds good. I am cabbages Wednesday, peas Friday, potatoes (1st earlies) Sunday. Might sow more onions too. Anyone else got seed trays all over their house?

              Just a reminder all for tomorrow:-

              Biodynamic - sow flowering plants like Broccoli, Cauliflowers, Globe Artichokes, but it would not be a good time to sow root plants like Asparagus, Beetroot, Carrots, Chives, First Early Potatoes, Horseradish, Jerusalem Artichokes, Leeks, Onions, Parsnips, Potatoes, Radish, Second Early Potatoes, Shallots, Spring Onions.

              Synodic - sow vegetables that produce internal seed bearing fruits, such as Tomatoes, beans, peas, peppers, chillis, pumpkins, courgettes.

              (Hope I am doing this correctly Zazen999?)

                    Hey, don't worry about it. Think of it as an experiment and sow some more on Sunday then you have a compare and contrast.
                    Pleased you like the thread.

                        Hmm... does this principle work for direct-sown crops mainly then? The first site linked says:

                        These same forces affect the water content of the soil, creating more moisture in the soil at the time of the new and full moon. This increased moisture encourages the seeds to sprout and grow.
                        But surely if you lightly water the compost you've sown into (say in modules or what not), that moisture will stay the same?

                          hmmmph! I hate reading about new stuff. The first two methods of moon planting contradict each other! (synodic and biodynamic)

                            Cats would have my seed trays if they were all over the house, so they are shut away in the spare room along with the chicks

                              I think even if you add the same amount of water whatever the day it will interact diffently with the soil and more importantly the light?

                                What do you use to tell you the days VVG? I mostly use this website Guide to planting by the moon - The Gardeners Calendar but also have The Biodynamic Sowing and Planting Calendar by Maria & Matthias Thun but I find the book a little confussing as I have never had time to sit down and read it, I just flip through and see what today/tomorrow/my next day off is
