Go with the simple method of lunar planting and it will not be as limiting for you perhaps. I can give further help if you want - just PM me. I am a bit like Zazen999 and try to follow the lunar schedule but if something needs doing it gets done regardless - it isn't necessary to leave yourself restricted.

Here's your reminder for tomorrow again, for those interested, schedule goes like this.

Biodynamic: Sow Leaf plants like Cabbages, Celeriac, Celery, Dill, Lettuce, Rhubarb, Spinach, but it would not be a good time to sow Fruiting plants like Aubergines (Eggplant), Broad Beans (Fava), Cucumbers, Peas, Peppers, Tomatoes.

Synodic: Sow vegetables that produce internal seed bearing fruits. Tomatoes, beans, peas, peppers, chillis, pumpkins, courgettes.
      Happy sowing!

      Full moon on 19th March.

Today I managed to fit in most of my leaf sowing, in less them half an hour

        - Kale
        - Spinach
        - Cress (land)
        - Rocket
        - Cabbage
        - two kinds of mixed salad, one being a 'speedy' mix

Perfect timing as only 3 days to the full moon - should be good for your germination rate and such speedy sowing too - very impressed.

              Biodynamic preparations

In addition to planting according to the lunar calendar, has anyone used any of the Biodynamic preprations for soil or compost?

I don't need convincing of the merits of lunar planting having run my own tiny side-by-side experiments a few years back and seen how healthy the "lunar" plants were compared to those planted ordinarily but I would love to hear from those with experience of the preparations.

Hi BilboWaggins - I haven't experimented with soil preparations, not sure if anyone else has.

Ok, I have had some time to read some more of The Biodynamic Sowing and Planting Calendar 2011 and the sowing calendar is a little bit different to the one I have been using on Guide to planting by the moon - The Gardeners Calendar I think it might be different because of whatever computer programme they use to up-date it but I am going to follow what is in my book from now on.

For the next week it looks like:
                          From 8am Sunday 20th - 9am Tuesday 22nd = Root
                          From 10am Tuesday 22nd - 3pm Wednesday 23rd = Flower
                          From 4pm Wednesday 23rd - 6pm Friday 25th = Leaf
                          From 1am Saturday 26th - 7am Monday 28th = Fruit

At the moment it is a no sowing time, which I am guessing is to do with the full moon.

In other news yesterday my cauli started to come through, and also my carrot germination test has worked so I have about 7 packets of carrot seeds to use up asap!! I am a little worried that my parsnips are still not showing signs of chitting, from a new packet of seed, but there is still plenty of time.

Well today is quite a day for those into lunar planting, so I sowed another row of peas in guttering, after transplanting the pea seedlings that I had already for the lottie. OH been digging up there all day. Sowed some chilli peppers and okra. Potted on all my sweet peppers. Took some photographs of the moon over the fields as it glowed a beautiful golden hue. Did some more border mulching courtesy of the hens and their poop. Planted my new comfrey plants, sorrel and yarrow. Wild garlic tomorrow under the ceanothus and onion sets on the allotment. Maybe some potatoes in bags as it is a root day! Very satisfying but tiring day.

Synodic: Sow root vegetables, berries, bulbs, onions, biennials, and perennials.

Biodynamic: Sow Root plants like Asparagus, Beetroot, Carrots, Chives, First Early Potatoes, Horseradish, Jerusalem Artichokes, Leeks, Onions, Parsnips, Potatoes, Radish, Second Early Potatoes, Shallots, Spring Onions, but it would not be a good time to sow Flower plants like Broccoli, Cauliflowers, Globe Artichokes

Good day for garden maintenance too!

This is synodic and not the biodynamic schedule - just thought I should point that out. The gardeners calendar offers both and to provide a schedule for all I will continue to post by day on both methods.

Pleased you are germinating well and today's full moon should assist, as will the next phase with your roots.
