Hello Everyone. I managed to over winter some broad beans under polythene. I have saved quite a few.Would it be safe to leave the polythene off. I live in the south west.
Thanks Evie b
I'd have thought so - but I'm no expert! Mine have been out unprotected for a couple weeks and are looking fine (apart from one that was sat upon by neighbouring cat!)
I guess be ready to recover if a deep frost is forecast?

As long as you harden them off first they will be alright planted out.Mine have been out on the lottie for the last 4 weeks. An overnight frost won't kill them. Its only when we get prolonged cold that they are likely to be killed off.
As the others say - harden them off first, but other than that they will be fine outside, frosts & all - they are very hardy, and have been on a lot of plots unprotected throughout the winter.
