Will rhubarb grow in the shade?

I think rhubarb is one of those tolerant plants that will grow wherever it is planted, but to get the best out of it, grow it in the sun.

That said, I've got rhubarb on my plot that was there where I took the plot over and its in shade for part of the day. I get plenty of lovely stems every year though.

If shade is the only place available, give it a go. It likes a nice mulch of manure too!

        Agreed.
Partial shade is OK, not total shade - that's called blanching, and weakens the plant

My mum grows her in a shady corner of her garden and it is excellent. It has been there for years, and always crops really well.
