Hi,

I'm considering making some geoff hamilton style netting cages for my raised beds this year using mdpe water pipe.

While the 'normal' diameter of pipe used is 25mm, I've also come across 20mm on-line. As I can't check out it's firmness as I haven't found a local supplier, I was windering if anyone could advise me on whether 20mm rather than 25mm would work?

Also, I've seen that some people have found metal 'clips' that fit the pipes and are good for holding the netting on - does anyone know what these are called? I want to check I can get them to fit whatever pipe I end up getting.

I use these to hold netting on 20mm pipe. They just push onto the pipe & can slide up & down it.

I use 20mm conduit - drape scaffolding netting / debris netting over it and weight down the edges.

The 15mM.pipe i am using after 3 years is still o/k.

I don't have any clips - I just push some short bamboos into the ground so they stick out a foot or two and then just put the hoops onto them.

All constructed by a 9-year-old - pictures on my blog here in case it is any help

Blue plastic is meant for underground use only and is not UV stable. Black or white conduit most certainly is UV stable.

As to fastening's a cheaper alternative might be small electricians cable ties available from Depot, Maplins etc.

Hello all,

I've not been around for quite a while due to real life chaos!

In amongst the real life chaos I've been lucky enough to get an allotment and I'm looking to make some hoops/arches over some raspberry canes and currant bushes that are already there.

I just wondered if the white conduit from Screwfix is flexible enough to make the hoops/arches? Or am I better off using the MDPE water pipe?
