Shallots direct sown and been in since end Feb. Onions in modules in greenhouse and some already in the lottie - part of my experiment on direct sown V module. Want to get a head start as was sowing at back end of onion season last year and was disappointed with size

Mine are also in modules in the unheated greenhouse and have been for about a month. Nice tall green shoots propelling from the sets. These will go out shortly. I stupidly removed the fleece from my over wintering autumn plalnted sets but haven't had a chance to see the damage the recent frost has caused! D'oh!!

I've still got my overwintering ones in. They're starting to come on really well now the weather's better, so might put my spring ones in very soon.

They are pretty hardy - I sometimes put them in the ground in October, but didn't get round to it, so this year I've got my onions waiting to direct sow this week.
last year they were in in early march and I had an excellent harvest...just got a few stored ones left to eat.

My Japanese overwintering ones are also perking up in the garden; gave them their spring feed yesterday. I hve garlic with them too, but the elephant garlic is still not showing although have read it's not that brilliant a taste anyhow - c'est la vie!

I planted mine today along with garlic (bit late, but better late than never I suppose). Will I need to fleece them if there's a frost? I'm in East Yorkshire.

My shallots are in, onion sets will go in tomorrow. They will be fleeced anyway (as is my garlic ) until the end of April to keep off the allium leaf miner. Onion grown from seed won't be going in until May.......

Mine went in last Friday (11th) along with some red baron onion sets. Was that too early? There's no sign of life from them yet in a week and I keep thinking I've done something to kill them all
