  • Lunar Planting...does it work?

I am sceptical but it appears I am the only one who is? I would like to see a balanced discussion on this.

    Any other views welcomed.....

Try it and find out is my suggestion rather than making uninformed comments.

I fail to see what is uniformed about admiting your skeptical and asking for a discussion.

Ok point the person in the right direction to find more information but lets not get on our high horses.

I have searched and read some of the other threads. I had not heard of moon gardening before the sticky appeared. I was dubious as per my comments in that thread. It seems that doubters are dismissed by those converted to the idea.

I have not dismissed the idea and I am intrigued by it. But I would like to hear from those with other ideas and views.

I have noted that there are very few comments from respected posters. Maybe they have learned that silence is the best course of action on this point. I read a comment in another earlier thread which made the point that those in favour of the method were unable to make an unbiased comment on the arguments against moon planting. I think it's called blind faith and this is in my opinion unhealthy.

My mind remains open but my brain would like to dissect the evidence. My research continues.....

It wasn't uninformed. I found a site that related the moon planting calendar to astrology. Which I consider to be nonsense therefore my initial opinion might have been biased against the idea. However i was also trying to stimulate interesting balanced debate through devils advocacy......

I am finding it difficult to find anything other than support for the idea so there must be something in it....init

Whereas you started off with 'it all sounds like mumbo jumbo to me...'.

Like it - don' t like it - use it - don't use it....plants will still grow whether you do or don't!

I don't remember the comment about those in favour not being able to make an unbiased comment on the arguments....but you did get your knickers in a twist thinking it was astrology and not astronomy and so it is a little hard when people can't grasp a concept...

Astrological Signs of the Zodiac, Fertile Signs for Planting

                        Am I missing something?

The website above purports to advise on moon gardening and the quote below is lifted from their sage advice.......complete bunkum

How the astrological signs of the zodiac influence gardening
                        by the Moon
The Moon moves through the signs of the Zodiac in the heavens every couple of days. Different signs are associated with an element of earth, air, fire or water. When the Moon is in a water sign it is the most fertile time for planting. Different types of plants have favorite signs too, such as leafy plants prefer the water signs. The fertile water signs are Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio, and are best for planting above ground, leafy annuals.

                        Planting by the Signs
The Earth signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, are also very fertile and good for planting. The root is the part of the plant associated with earth signs, so it is especially good for planting root crops, or for transplanting to encourage root development.

Zazen999 the bias is not ours. I for one am not wasting any more time on this - it is just a shame that it can be dismissed without trial. Like saying you hate tea without having a sip.

I don't agree with some methods of doing stuff posted on forums but you live and let live rather than try and provoke.

Thanks for your support as a mod.

                            No worries.

I'm probably biased because I prefer to actually take time out, do the trials myself, publish the results and let them speak for themselves....rather than be a google warrior!
