      Why should you have to?

I can't believe there is one person here who has those Veg started that early.

You've been conned, plain-and-simple. If someone had nicked your wallet you'd be well cheesed off, I think you should view this in the same light. You haven't done anything wrong.

Pity you are so far away from me, otherwise I'd happily go round there with you to have a friendly chat with the manager.

Very annoying that companies would take advantage of new growers this way They know that there are so many new people who take up "growing your own" each year, and if they don't have the knowledge/experience to know about planting times, then they'll want to get them somewhere and they may buy them from the first place they see them.

If you can conatin them in the house until its warmer outside, and you're limited on outdoor space, maybe you could donate the plants to someone who has the space? (assuming they'd still do well then, I don't know whether they'd produce a bumper crop or just give up altogether...?)

Probably going to be an unpopular lone voice on this one. I too saw the young plants on sale in B&Q earlier in the year and thought to myself that anyone with a heated greenhouse would be chuffed as they were cheap as chips. I'm sure everyone makes an impulse buy every now and then without properly thinking about it, but it's a but unfair for people to slate B&Q for it.

As with most things in this world, buyer beware and make sure that you actually really need it, another Guiness for the road please John! and can support and look after it and that you will use whatever you purchase - whether it's a plastic pumpkin or a puppy or even another pint of Guiness please, and I'll have another double heated greenhouse while your about it. Happy Gardening everyone 2011

Nah, I think anyone with a heated gh would be raising their own from seed, and they still wouldn't be doing it in late Feb/early March

Cucumber just possibly. It would be possible to keep it alive in a heated greenhouse (needs 10C, not just "frost free"), but it might have suffered from the lower light levels.

But the Squash and Courgette plants would grow too big to be able to transplant by late May. Last year I grew mine on for an extra 3 weeks, in 2L pots, in order to try planting them out a bit later (and thus avoid the initial cold that often slows them down when planted in 2nd half of May). That was difficult enough that I won't repeat it. An extra 8 weeks would be a nightmare!
