Just a quick question - would it be better to plant my turnip seeds in situ or is it best to start them off in the greenhouse in trays and transplant later.

I've always sown turnips directly. They seem to come up ok - rather like radishes which I also wouldn't dream of transplanting. However someone here may have tried it and found that it works.

I agree with flummery and wouldn't dream of transplanting turnips!
I suppose they could be grown in large pots for an early crop though, and the foliage is reputedly quite tasty!

The only way you could grow them to transplant would be in individual cells. They are sort of tap rooted and hate transplanting so you have to be very careful not to break the root. I guess as Snadger says you could grow them in a large pot, as you can with carrotsComment
