  • Pea shoots

    It doesn't matter what type.

Bung some seeds in a nice wide pot on some general purpose compost.

    The more the merrier.

    Cover with compost and water.

A couple of weeks later, you should have a pot of seedlings about 3 inches tall.

Nip off the tops and bung into soups, rice, salads; or as a topping to pretty much any meal.

So good to have freshly picked crops at the drop of a hat.

Once you have picked the first batch, sow another. Then after 3-4 pickings from batch 1, you will have batch 2 ready to go.

    And so on....

I've got some dried peas so I can do this today, was wondering are they ok left in a unheated greenhouse, or would they be better off in the kitchen window sill?

I put mine in an unheated greenhouse but you can get them started on a windowsill.

Mine were planted today in an unheated plastic greenhouse. Love them.. grew them first time last year using dead cheap dried peas from the supermarket- lovely fresh pea-y taste and they kept me in salads and stir fries at a time when nothing much else was ready. Brilliant.

I did these too after seeing Miss Fowler do it. I used old wooden wine boxes which are currently growing in the greenhouse.

Pea shoots are fantastic......and so easy to grow on the windowsill or in the GH. Sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply........microgreens of any variety are so popular in restaurants at present. They are selling bags of them in the supermarkets in the salad section and B&Q now have pea shoot seed for sale separately!!!!!!! and more expensive!!!!!

Whats more you can plant them at any time and you are virtually guaranteed a good germination rate.........

I've done this too since seeing it on Alys Fowler's show. Really, really tasty and dead easy.

Aren't pea shoots pretty good for the soil if left in? Or am I getting confused with the bottom of the full grown plants?
