I am very new to the site my plot is on but chat to several 'neighbours' regularly. We don't have much in the way of organised events but I think some plot holder have impromptu get togethers.

Ours is a small site without anything organised but we make a point of making ourselves known to the others when there are changes of tenants. We have a new allotments association so we may yet develop a more sociable scene but time will tell. As an old git, I'm sage enough to know that I don't know everything and so I welcome any advice given and make my own knowledge available to others if it is required.

Mine is a small site, only 15plots so difficult to have things like BBQ's. I am chairman and spend a lot of time on site (next to my house) and speak to every one when I see them. I probably chat to much but am conscious that people are there to grow fruit and veg. I am always giving plants and produce away as I have a big plot and there is only me and OH. I like to think we are a very friendly site.

We have a friendly site and everyone waves and says hello. Some keep to themselves other than that. I tend to go to the lottie on an afternoon so that I can get on with things and not chatter. Most of the other plot holders (all men) go up on a morning and stand round talking for hours on end. It amazes me how they get anything done at all!
We don't have any organised events other than the AGM, which suits me fine as I'm far too busy for socialising. We swap produce, get advice from one another and generally just have a quick chat, but to be honest I go up there to get stuff done not socialise.Forbidden Fruits make many Jams.

Ours is a very much divided site: on one side are the Old Boys who don't like change (or women, it seems) and on the Other Side are the women, lol
Us gals have tried to organise plant swaps, social days, we've put up a communal shed/office/canteen and we've been pulling out the perimeter weeds and planting flowers but it's not gone down well. The divide seems to be deeper than ever. What is it with old men? Bigger gossips & trouble-stirrers than anyone.
So, this year I won't be putting myself out so much, just keeping my head down & doing my veg. I'm really really busy this year anyway with the school garden. All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

I (and a few others) seem to be quite lucky, everyone I have met on the allotment is very chatty and friendly. After this years AGM (my first as I have only been a plot holder for a couple of months) a few people went to the pub after (I would have done, but I had plans) and there was talk of the annual BBQ and veggie contest in the summer. We are lucky enough to have an on sight shop which opens for two hours on a Sunday morning. One of the gentlement who runs the shop recently had a stroke so at the AGM they asked for volunteers to help out. I did my first shift this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it and it was also a chance to talk to more of the plot holders I don't usually see.
