What temperature does it get to during the day ?
Your seedlings look just like some cabbage I sowed and left inside (ie in heat) after they had germinated.
Lettuce do not like it hot; I don't think spinach do either.

I'm intruiged by this. If you bought "commercial" potting compost - why did you wash it ?
Was it to get rid of nutrients from compost designed for potting-on to turn it into low nutrient seed compost ?
Or some other reason ?

Leave Rotten Fruit.
Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!

teakdesk, I washed it so it drains better in the 1 metre long grow bag and to make it low nutrient seed compost. Mostly for the drainage. I was going to add liquid nutrient when bigger.
(ie heat) can heat alone do this? without strong direct sunlight? we are in the first week of autumLast edited by growbags; 22-03-2011, 05:00 PM.

Growing Lettuce and How to Grow Lettuce in Hot Weather
says:
"Nearly all problems you may encounter when growing lettuce are caused by hot weather. The most common problem, apart form the plants bolting to seed prematurely, are brown edges on the leaves. This happens especially if you get very hot weather after a cool spell."
Ill try again in a few weeks.
Thanks to everyone who helped out
