Does anyone have relatively easy design/plan for compost bins made out of old pallets?
I say easy as my joinery skills aren't up to much, according to better half
Clay soil is just the big yins way of letting you know nothing good comes easy.
They beat me to it - this is exactly how we made the two I have down at the plot, and we thought it up ourselves ! They work really well and are very stable and easy to make. I have stapled old compost bags, black side inner-most, to the inside of the pallets to help with the heating up process (tip read about on here, sorry, I can't remember whose so unable to credit them with it ) - works a treat.
Happy compost bin building!
Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.
We did ours 3 pallets wide by 1 pallet deep with another pallet as a divide in the middle so we have one bin full of last years waste, and the other for this years waste. Didn't think to use cable ties though, just a hammer and 6" nails did the trick. To make it more steady we nailed a length of wood at a 45° angle between the side and length pallet's and then some more at the front going down to the ground at the same angle. With no door, another idea we didn't think of, we just cut out 2 rows of the front pallets wide enough to get the shovel in and manoeuvre. Not perfect and probably a harder way of making one but its working for us
Superb folks. Ideal. Cable ties and six inch nails are just about me! :-) top tip too about the bags. Only bummer is I've just dispatched some plastic bags (manure and soil improver) to landfill. Arrgh.
