Tomatoes germinated in unheated greenhouse

So...

I sowed toms indoors, they came up

I sowed toms in a heated prop and they also came up

Many of the seedlings from the above have been in my unheated greenhouse for weeks now...and 2 weekends ago I sowed tomatoes and left them in the greenhouse to germinate - and yesterday the first ones are up.

YAY

I try and only have a couple grown indoors - these get grown on quickly and planted out at the start of May, the rest are grown hard in the greenhouse; and it's always good when they germinate out there of their own accord.

Now, all I need to do is work out what to do with them all.

I have a tray of toms that germinated indoors, then I moved them to an unheated greenhouse. They look fine, but in the last 10 days they haven't grown at all. I have concluded that it's too cold at night now and I think I'm going to bring them inside again to grow them on!

Did you harden them off first?

If they germinate in an unheated greenhouse they grow hard but don't get checked by the cold....

Nope. Once I change to greenhouse I change to greenhouse.

But you've got the three separate batches? (OK maybe not sown on the same day) or did I misunderstand?

Knowing how they compare would be interesting. i.e. whether "faff" is worth it, and if so how much difference it makes.

If the ones you grew from seed in the cold greenhouse start cropping the day after the ones raised in the propagator (or even a week or 10 days for that matter) then the "faff" becomes debatable I reckon.

All sown different times; earliest were indoors, then the heated prop as space became available [after the chilis had hogged the space] then in the greenhouse.

From indoors, my first harvest has been 2nd June. Which is why I continued to sow a few early.

Indeed! I've made a note to do that next year. Can't wind the clock back to try it this year though.

Well done Zazen999 - must be all that glorious Derbyshire sunshine we've been having. Did you know that a tomato nursery in Derbyshire kept the UK supplied many moons ago?!

Do you have a min max thermometer in the GH? If you do, what's the lowest they've been through.

I remember posting and wondering about this last year, when I had some hardy self seeded toms germinating in the GH. None this year though, it's been too cold I reckon.
