Planting out Beetroot

I have a tray of boltardy beetroot seedlings. What size do they need to be before they are planted out?

Should I pot them on first?

Any help appreciated......

depends on how much your plot gets affected by slugs/snails.

if not much then straight away so they get hardy early on.

if i plant mine when they are an inch or less they tend to get eaten overnight, any bigger than this then i find the slugs/snails ignore then and target other plants

When I sowed mine direct last year, I put bottle cloches over them to stop the slugs grazing them off as/when they germinated.

I've sown mine in modules this year, probably will plant them out when they're 3/4" tall - depends when they start to look crowded

I've never noticed slugs & snails attacking them, but sparrows go for the leaves in early spring

I planted mine out ina council tub covered with fleece l;ast week all about 2 inches high, there sill fine at present and doing well.

I think they'd be fine straight out. I like beetroot seeds a lot, as they're not at all fiddly!

I've not had anything eat mine. Creatures around my way like the peas and the onion sets instead.

Mine have been out a while and not been touched by slugs or snails. The beetroot hadn't done much till we had the rain a couple of days ago and now it looks as if has started to move.
