iffy leek seed germination

    ona leek related note, does anyone else find their leeks germinate and grow to grass like thickness fine, then kind of stop? everywhere says they should be pencil thick for transfer but mine don't seem to get there, what am i doing wrong?? :0(

      Yes that's exactly how mine came out, like blades of grass then tuned brown!!

        I think you've cooked them. You only need the glass on top for germination, it must come off when the first plants appear

        Yes, mine do that too. I think they run out of food in their little pots. Try potting them up gradually in fresh compost

          It's at this point, when a carpet of roots has grown in the tray that I transplant the lot into a corner of the lottie. Then, when there is space later in the season, they get dug up and transplanted into their final positions. They take their goodness from the soil and it's one less thing to worry about in pots/trays.
