I get bad splits in my thumbs at the start of the gardening year (despite gloves). Very, very painful. Nothing seems to help, although Sudocrem is the best of what I've tried (inc. Neutrogena, Lotil, E45, vaseline etc)

For some reason I seem to be allergic to flaming Sudocrem. I usually garden 'Commando' (hands) but at work I use barrier cream on occasions!

I agree..........and as an apprentice I did try it, and it worked. (You could here me shouting out how well it worked from about half a mile away though!)

Krakattack for farmers' hands - available from Packington Pork farm shop and probably something you can get mail order from somewhere. Cleared my mother's cracked and chilblained hands in two days. I gave my pot to her and now need to buy another. It's magic stuff.

Years ago I used to suffer very bad splitting when tiling bathrooms in the winter, tile cement had not been invented and we used a kind of mortar that took all naturals oils out of the skin. Yes weeing on your hands does work but could not recommend it for the ladys as it hardens your skin as well.

Crabtree and Evelyn hand therapy/cream. Had some for Christmas and its lovely, but I use it as a treat when my hands are really bad. I use a body shop alomd one and the expert dry skin balm from boots in between.
