ah, I did wonder if I sowed them too early. The packet said to sow from March onwards...Hang on, that means they are only about 3 weeks old not 6. They are really huge!

I think I'll have to put them out pretty soon, but maybe with a double cloche. We shall see what happens! I have already sown another batch, just in case, and I have more seeds (the stupid thing is I didn't even sow the whole packets-it was just insanely good germination rates, nearly 100%!).

Pumpkin / Squash (and I think Cucumber and Courgette too) hate the cold. So even if no frost, and protected, they may well struggle if night temperature falls much below 10C / 50F (which it will do until probably well into May in this part of the country). However, keeping the wind off them (e.g. with a cloche) may help the most.

I'm a late sower too - mine (and I assume everyone's!) always grow like monsters - one day there are just some innocent looking first leaves but by the end of the week they look like they could do with repotting - I'll not be sowing mine til end of April for planting out at the end of May/beg June. I've found they don't really like their roots moved about too much (always takes them a good week to start picking up once they've been moved to the lottie). If you've got room to keep them indoors I'd definitely try and do that for another 4 weeks at least.

I'm another not yet sown. Late April will be soon enough here in E.Yorkshire.

My name is Thelma Sanders,a squash, and I can confirm that I don't like cold and wet conditions LOL

Seriously though, I will not be sowing my squash/cucumber seeds for another couple of weeks.
