  • Today I took up some more turf and dug over one of my new beds in the garden. Then potted on some of my toms and chillis that I sowed last month. Also sowed some calabrese, red cabbage and loads of broad beans in the greenhouse to give them a good start.

However when I was in B&Q yesterday I noticed some tom and chilli seedlings about 4 inches tall for sale, which I didn't bother with cos growing my own from seed and they were all F1's.

BUT right next to them were a tray of 4 inch tall courgette seedlings!!!! I know its been mentioned before on here but that kind of irresponsibility is just ridiculous!

    That is all.

        • Potted on my cukes which are shooting for the sky, soil all the way up to the leaves as some grapes have said roots can come from stems, like with toms. Planted out shop-bought spring onions - apparently you can keep snipping the green bits and it keeps on growing. Soaking some shop-bought coriander seeds after first cracking them lightly, will sow tomorrow.

          • compost bin was getting full, so i had to take some compost out of the bottom, then i dug over another 2m by 2m square on my neighbours garden/jungle and then i pruned the hydrangea and fushia bush (i'll use the fushia cuttings as pea sticks this summer, then i planted 2 little rhubarb crowns that i bought from morrisons at £1 each. and whilst i was doing this my mum planted her begonias.

            • Dug up a couple of rhubarb crowns and a blueberry from a neighbours plot ready to transplant into mine! They are giving the plot up and gave me first dabs on anything within it (fatal!)

My own rhubarb appears to have returned to the land of the living after being killed off by next doors weedkiller. I have grown half a dozen plants from seed, thinking I had lost it, and now I have two new crowns as well.

Gave my own rhubarb a good mulch of 6X type manure!

I may take one crown into the greenhouse and force it to get some succulent early stems then bin it?
I need to buy some ericaeous compost for the blueberry as its roots haven't spread from the original pot it was in, weven though it was planted in open ground (lotties about neutral pH methinks)

There is an 8X6 greenhouse on the plot which I wasn't going to bother with at first, but now think I have a use for it. Laid claim to the door this evening and i may pillage the glass and clips tomorrow evening (depends on how knackering a day I have at work)

                    • Sowed coriander in three spots - some with a herb that stays outside, some at the base of my eddoes/taro plant (which is huge and lush, by the way) that comes inside at night, and some in a pot that's staying indoors.

Had my first helping of pea shoots - and it was lovely! So fast to grow, and easy, and I wish I'd done this years ago.

Put my passionfruit and banana seed tray on a hot water bottle since they need about 30C or higher.

                              • Been and dug 4 holes for the anchor posts of greenhouse I'm putting up on the plot, also weeded and raked raised beds.

Went and had a chat with one of the old chaps that's always on the garden, still trying to get a cuppa out of him
