Tidying up after the massacre that was the building of the compost bins. Raking up stray bits of branches, picking up piles of stones, disposing of bags that the sand, gravel and cement came in etc.
Starting to look like part of the garden again, but my poor back is singing...

Re-sowing under fleece of one row De Barletta spring onions and two rows Adelaide F1 carrots which never put in an appearance, now joined by a row of Snowball turnips and two rows of Detroit 2 beetroot. Also under fleece a 3m-double row of Douce Provence peas.
Managed to plant 130 Turbo and 150 Sturon onion sets in this year's plot, which is a fair few more than I fitted into a similar area last time. I think I must have been rather mean with the spacing (I'm afraid I'm not very systematic about these things) so I'm hoping I really have left enough space to hoe between them. They are now covered with an elaborate structure of canes, twine and old cds designed to deter pigeons, crows, pterodactyls and other airborne predators. Looks lovely.Last edited by Barking Postlethwaite; 07-04-2013, 03:49 PM.

Admired the basil and celeriac seedlings finally juust poking their heads out in the prop, sowed some kale, then took some mayan gold chitted spuds on a trip to the lottie.
While planting them, accidently dug up half a slow worm. Felt awful.
Sowed a row of optimistic beetroot and a bit of lettuce. Got some net set up ready for sowing some brassicas next time I'm down there.

Checked on the seeds in the cold frame and gave them a watering. I have rocket sprouts!!!
Sowed some cucumbers - had to shove the chillies over to make room in the heated propagator. Also bought a propagator top to fit the watering tray 'cause I thought the sprouted chillies could do with a little more protection.March is the new winter.

Counted my fruit trees for the first time ever - 36 Must try to identify some more of them this year - if they manage to flower and fruit
Did some more bramble clearance.
Planted about 30 coloured primroses that I received from T&M last year as mini-mini plugs - think they were free if you paid postage.
Planted some Rocket and Charlotte potatoes in bags in the GH. I don't think I'll put any in the soil this year, having lost the lot to blight last year.
Another fine day messing about in the gardenLast edited by veggiechicken; 07-04-2013, 07:42 PM.

Yesterday planted all the spuds about 8-10" deep - the forecast shows no frost for the foreseeable, so the soil should continue to warm up nicely.
Today made the first direct sowings - parsnip (with radish to mark the row. No idea why I still do this - it's only a short 4' row marked at each end, and I know what a parsnip seedling looks like); beetroot; carrot. Put up the pea wigwams (a hateful job) and started to string them round (another hateful job) but ran out of string.Last edited by Hazel at the Hill; 07-04-2013, 07:14 PM.

Put more seeds in pot. New cold frame nearly full.
Planted carrot seed in lovely compost riddled soil.
Met MrGrower off here and gave him some blackcurrant twigs.
Got given some potatoes (Thanks Andy!) and planted them.
Fell on my bum on the plot but luckily there wasn't anyone looking at the time.
