Raked over a previously dug bed and re-edged it with 4" round fenceposts. Finally got round to sowing my parsnips in 3/4" deep drills and filled in drills with old potting compost.Watered in well.
Planted a tray full of dutch Iris's that I bought a while ago and started in a seed tray. As the soil was quite friable i just scooped pockets out and planted them in among some lillies I'd already planted.
Decided to dismember a long term pea/bean frame which had become a bit of an eyesore. Four metal posts held it up which I'd hammered into the ground. After a lot of shaking to and fro i managed to dislodge them and remove them. One of them was sunk into the ground about three feet!
Started to dig over the bed for tatties until my back started giving me jip so I took that as a signal i had done enough.
Will hopefully finish digging the bed tomorrow and get some more spuds in.............Maxine this time!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Turned my No Nails pallet raised bed into an 8 section Square footish bed. Sowed marigold and radish seeds along the dividing lines and beetroot, carrot & Rat's Tail radish in 3 squares. Planted the others with Drunken Woman lettuce x 2, Rainbow chard, Ernie's Big Eye peas and Anonymous cabbage.
Planted Half Tall Brussels Sprouts amongst the white onion sets.
Cut down holly and honeysuckle that had grown into the Russet apple tree and did some more clearance.
Hope there's no frost tonight as I've left 4 buckets of potatoes out and its too dark to go looking for them!!
Planted some more brassicas, Brussels sprout this time. Also broad beans, beetroot and lettuce. Sowed some sweetcorn, squashes, curcurbits. Tied in the raspberries, hoed off tiny weed seeds, watered and watered some more as the lotty was as dry as dust. Moved the water butt, which nearly killed me as it was half full, but now I have a straight run down the right hand side for a paved area, which will great for sitting out and maybe popping some pots on. We have all been told no sheds rule now, no bonfires, no BBQs, no unsightly structures to say the rest are kicking off is an understatement. We are one of two who haven't had letters.

Spent the day with the other ladies of the social committee turning part of the centenary garden into a more social area. Came home and started potting on toms...and then noticed the chillies and aubs need doing too...can't keep up ....
S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig a batch of jam is always an act of creation ..Christine Ferber
Popped to the plot on the way home from work. Sweetcorn is coming through in the modules in the polytunnel. Spinach in there is also growing well. One small radish was ready for picking so I happily obliged, gave it a quick wipe and ate it there and then. More and more peas through.
- Garden Club: we planted spuds, peas & shallots
- I turned the school daleks, pulling out half a sack of plastic litter from them
- knocked the dalek contents about with a fork, levelled it roughly, and it'll be planted up with squash
- started fashioning a hugel bed with old shrub prunings
- planted up a hanging basket with peas
- fed all the school beds with seaweed feed
- the water butts (4) are empty, so half-filled them with hosepipe: we've had no rain for 6 weeks
- continued pulling reed & weed out of the frog pond, and rewarded by the newts, who've started breeding in the shallows. Took groups of kids out to watch them
- at home, emptied the contents of one dog poo dalek: it's become beautiful black crumbly compost, no evidence of poop and no smell, full of worms. Forked it roughly over the flower beds
- took some of the worms to school to replenish the wormery
- scattered oat & wheat seed over the bare patches in the Guinea Pig Lawn
- potted up caviar lentils & aduki beans, that have chitted well
All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
Planted out Purple Queen and yellow Kinghorn Wax beans, and some black kale. A large part of my morning session was spent planting and earthing up some Ratte and Anya potatoes given to me by a neighbour.
It was very sweet of her and I couldn't really say no, but I've already planted more spuds than I'm ever going to need. I managed to find some space just wide enough between another row and a path, but with no adjacent soil I had to earth them up with stuff reclaimed from my soil heap at the far end of the plot carried a spadeful at a time (no, I didn't take the barrow with me because I didn't think I'd have to do that). Talk about unprepared and inefficient; it's left me knackered now.
Planted out modules of turnip and beetroot. Made some wigwams with bamboo from our neighbour. Decided 4m tall was silly! Planted borlotti and climbing French beans beside the wigwams. Bottled borage tea and made some more.
Opened up the poly door to let some air circulate.
Watered some of the plants inside.
Watered dry looking asparagus bed.
Watered salad leaves.
All done after work this morning!
One more night to go, then a few days on the plot!!

To be honest though, I very seldom eat potatoes because they make me too full up but I do love them. Lynne x
