  • Built a large single-shelf staging unit type thingy, so my buckets and tubs are now off the cold floor and in a position to get more direct sunlight.

Made a wire-mesh cage to protect a potato sack from the local wildlife, then put my first three seed potatoes in.

Laid out the shape of my raised-bed-to-be with canes.

Cut back some of the huge conifer which was (still is largely) reducing the amount of light hitting my garden.

Got anxious, thinking that maybe I'm doing all of this for nothing, then laughed as my bro' tried doing reiki over the tubs to will the seeds into life.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

    • Another rat bit the dust this evening as dead eye snadge took him out with a single headshot. They WILL evenrtually learn that my chicken runs are a no-go area.
In an effort to put them off, all my chooks are fed by spring feeders now so no waste and no food left lying around for the rodents.
I am now using approximately half of the layers pellets I uswed to use.

Started making another small raised bed to be used as a seedbed for starting brassicas etc.

Took my red torpedo onion plants to greenhouse along with some Gerkin seedlings which got very elongated because of lack of light. I may need to re-sow these if they don't come good.

        • Today I cut the grass which was a huge job due to lawnmower death late last year and not enough pennys for a new one so it was rather long.

Weeded all off our Sand Edgeing ready for more sand, Moved empty pots to there new location ready for use. moved an old hutch on legs next to our old table to use a potting area, moved all bags of compost to said area. found and moved a good 20 ladybirds to my poor fennel.

Thank you for making me feel better - this time last year my windowsills were covered with pots and so far this year I have sowed NOTHING. Was panicking I was leaving it too late but feel better now

              • Cleared lots ivy - still more to go. Donating it to the council, before I have to pay for the pleasure of giving it to them!

Sowed more leeks, marigolds, Dwarf Beans and some peas (both for an early GH crop), coriander (in GH), lettuce.

Potted on some toms (Sungold & White Wax).

Dug a new bed. Dug another bed after taking up the turf.

Harvested some leeks, PSB and Komatsuma.

Put together the base for my new GH. Its a whopper at 14x8, but they do say to get the biggest you can! Well I certainly did. Only just fits in the space. Can't wait to get it built and full of fresh tomatoes!!

                • Finally managed to get to the allotment. Dug the last of the leeks and got a nice picking of tender curly kale. Started to weed the overwintering onions which are looking before baby needing feeding stopped play.

                    • - collected 22 ladybirds from the plotty and put them in the gh, where they immediately set about the greenfly
                      - moved some scabious & forget-me-nots to the school gardens
                      - emptied & chucked dozens of "habitats" (weeds & plastic rubbish in broken seed trays)
                      - weeded school veg beds, not too bad
                      - turned their dalek, pretty good too. Reduced the contents by two thirds
                      - chucked the frozen courgettes: they taste just awful
                      - dug up and divided lots & lots of primroses
                      - finally dug out the yellow rose I hate, and eBayed it for 10p
                      - dug out orange day lilies to transplant at school (in the blue & orange border)

                        • Sowed some red Spring Onion seeds with help from my 2 year old daughter who loved liberally chucking seeds everywhere....
Dug up a patch for a new onion bed....

                            • Popped out for some seed potatoes and strawberry starter plants.

Went to Poundstretcher and got ten Charlotte potatoes for £1.49, then saw a bag of White Snowball onion sets...75 for £0.99...had to have them too!

Next stop was Wilkinson's, where I purchased three Elsanta strawberry plants.

Then strolled over to Poundland to see if they'd started stocking the mushroom starter kits that they have on their website, alas to no avail.

A quick peek in Poundworld as I was passing and suddenly I am the new owner of some more wire mesh and two hanging baskets... what's happening to me?

                              • Took five bags of wood chippings to the allotment and spread them in front of my shed. Noticed that we had a skip at the entrance to site so gathered up a few bits of plastic, cracked pots etc and a wooden set of broken stepladders and dumped them. Spotted some decent sized romato pots in the skip so liberated them.
Spotted one of my neighbours carrying the broken wooden ladders back to his plot later on!
