  • Harvested another 2 punnets of tomatoes (Sungold and Bajaja), some blueberries and yet another courgette. Picked the first ripe James Grieve apple from my minature tree - the apples are huge! Cleared up the mess from the neighbour cutting the top of the leylandii hedge.

    • Very quick visit to Plot, to pick any courgettes that might have grown large due to rain.

Runner bean, wigwam falling over, chilli plants falling over, some 'thing' has run over my newly sown bed of winter lettuce!

Only 3 courgettes ready and couple of patty pans.

Back home to entertain, and cook for in laws !

Gosh, really miss, not being able to spend time 'pottering', lots to do on plot at the mo?

          • Managed to get to the allotment today after a hectic weekend doing family stuff.

Resited one of the Daleks, it's now where the sweetcorn was as the soil in that bit of the lottie is pretty poor.

Chopped sweetcorn stalks, added to Dalek with a mix of other stuff.

Lifted the last of the beetroot, picked runner beans and some of the tomatoes from the allotment.

Harvested Scotch Bonnet and Cayenne chillies (at home in greenhouse) for chilli jam.

            • Took more leaves off the tomato plants to help ripen. Cut and chopped with a sharp spade sweetcorn remains in the compost bin. put some comfrey leaves on top to help speed up rotting!

              • Last night; Put some Mizuna in the ground and some pak choi and beetroot that really needed to be out of their modules.

Sown the Raab/Rapini whatever you wanna call it and a small tray of giant winter spinach.

Picked a few bits, moaned about the slugs and the cold, wet and dark and lack of time.

                • More tidying and weeding at the allotment this afternoon.

Caterpillars have mostly disappeared from what little is left of the Cavalo Nero, and it's putting out new shoots.

Roasted tomatoes in the oven with onions and garlic for pasta sauce.

Cooked and peeled the last of the beetroot. I did sow more, but they don't appear to be doing much.

Hooray. My kale was infested with whitefly and three plants were killed ( I thought if I left it long enough the cold would see the critters off but it's too early for that perhaps) But I cut off all the infected leaves on the remaining plants ( ie nearly all of the leaves) and sprayed the underside of every single kale leaf with some organic stuff twice. It took forever! But yesterday i found new green foliage, and no sign of the invaders.

                        • Got to Plot!

Yep, runner beans had blown down, so took them down, left French beans up, few more might make it! Pulled up courgette plants that had grown from last year, lovely flowers only male.

Pulled up few more bits, sweet pea frame etc! compost bins now full.

Was nice to be back, then the rain arrived.

I really miss not having time to potter in the garden & veg patch too, hopefully I will get to do more next year when Jamie is a bit older (he'll be 2 at Christmas and I just can't take my eyes off him in the garden or he's up to mischief!). The only way i've managed to keep on top of things this year is by having a local guy come every three weeks to weed & tidy up, that way I've managed to have the odd hour every now and then tending my veg patch & greenhouse.

                            • Finished digging over the bed with my Desiree potatoes in (carp crop, anybody any ideas for small spuds?) getting it ready for my spring cabbage. Planted 50 Electric red onion sets. Only spaced the 4" apart each way as I still fancy they will run to seed and i don't want to waste too much space on them.

                              • Dug up about 10 turnips (Purple Top Milan) they've been just above tennis ball size for weeks, so I doubt they'll get any bigger. Thinking of cooking and mashing them before freezing because I'm not sure how long they'll keep.
