There is couch grass roots, grass with seed heads, bindweed roots and probably lots of other stuff that I don't want to risk composting. It's going to take more time than it's worth to try and sort it but I have been trying to keep any material that looks OK.

    • Ordered a couple of 220L composting daleks from the local council (they are going to start charging for taking away the brown bin garden waste rubbish!!!) so I may be getting more stuff to compost from neighbours too

          • Collected leaves from the veg garden and spread them over last year's tomato, this year's leek bed with a mix of chopped weeds, then covered with black plastic in the hope it will have all rotted down by June and leek planting time. Only three months late on this job!

            • Potted up leggy Serrano and early jalepeno to protect and pamper them.

Currently in process of sacrificing a pumpkin and some donated parsnips.

              • Today I've been weeding and winter digging last seasons brassica bed. Still got sprouts in there so only dug half. Had a bit of a tidy up too.

                • Went to Pundland and got 16 pentland javelin seed pots for £2, 3 seed trays and 1 cloche, £4 altogether. Didn't do too well with onions last year so didn't bother with them. That's the earlies sorted out, need to get second and mains. I have put the potatoes in my porch for the moment, it's bright and dry so they should be ok. When should I start chatting tnem for planting in late March?

                  • Yesterday I bought myself a couple more fruit bushes for the allotment, 1 redcurrent, 1 blackcurrent, 2 raspberry and 2 gooseberry.

Today I am hunting down some seed potatos to grow up on the lottie. Why doesn't anyone do small bags? All I am finding is huge bags and I just dont have the space for that much grumble lol!

Try to find a local potato day. You'll be able to buy single tubers. Also if you put your location in your details wt the top people can recommend local tips, etc.

Theres a good potato day near cheltenham this weekend.

                        • Hey thanks for the idea, sadly I know of no potato days over here (the Isle of Man) and it seems that there are none in Leicester when I'm over in March. Just bought some online, paid a ridiculous price on postage, but hopefully will be able to get a better deal or figure out something different for next year!

                          • Yesterday lunchtime I covered the area I cleared but had to leave because of the hail bullets. I also managed to clear a small area out of the way in the corner. In this space I then cobbled together a pallet compost 'bay' (Some might call it rustic - but I'd not be that generous to myself).

I now have to find time to extend it (2 more bays) and relocate the current shambled heap into it.
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

                            • Finally started clearing and tidying the lottie shed. Looking a lot better now. Still need to make more shelves for everything, but at least I know where most stuff is!!! Lol
Plus result from Freecycle. Not one but 2 compost bins acquired
