    • Planted a row of beetroot down the allotment along with a row of peas. Potted on some some calabrese and some funny looking broccoli the someone off the allotment gave me.

          • Another 5 potatoes planted in bag on allotment, and also another row of onions, ( I know it's a bit late), but there was a bit of a gap in my onion bed, didn't want to waste it.

Actually had to get the hose out and water everything, very dry.

            • Staked a melothrie that's still in its pot but looking like it wanted to climb. Shuffled things around inside and out and on the windowsills and managed to give away two artichoke seedlings *punches the air* Planted up a tray of things for microgreens - so far peas and mixed herb seeds. Intrigued to see how they turn out.

I try to spend half an hour a day in the veg patch on a weekday, and do it when the children are back and they can drift in and out and poke a trowel at things. Tomorrow I have loads to do - today I had to sort out the house for visitors this evening.

Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

              • Watered everything in the cloche. Planted out a couple rows of lettuce, still worried it's too early so only a few. Sprayed a bit of weed killer about and did some weeding.

                  • Just sat down to (finally) watch science of soil. Think other half feels a bit let down as I told him we was going to watch a programme called deep down and dirty. Think soil was last thing on his mind 😜

                          • Did a lot of weeding yesterday, and it looks like we're now almost rid of the docks in the bean beds!
I earthed up my early potatoes a bit more - although it isn't forecast to go below 3 degrees here the next few nights.

Planted out some pea seedlings, and watered, watered, watered the greenhouse.

                            • Went to the Allotment in the rain, sowed 1 chitted Parsnip seed to fill a gap in my row, in the rain, came home, in the rain.

Don't mind the rain really, I now have 400 L collected in my IBC tank

                              • Last night I managed to finally track down the email which showed who I got the Purple Filbert from that has met it's demise. Today I contacted them to report it, but was tolld they have no more to replace it with. Instead they have agreed to credit my account so I can "fill the gap" with something else.

Unfortunately (or furtunately depending how you look at it) there is no gap to fill now since I got my other trees in. I'll have to get my thinking cap on about what to do next.
