    • Potted up some chilli peppers and some sweet peppers into large pots. Did a bit of weeding then dumped a trug full of compost on the area I'd weeded and planted a pumpkin in the mound. Planted four borage seedings around the pumpkin.

I then sat with my feet up and ate my pie and chips, before watering greenhouse stuff and toddling off home.

      • Speedwell ? them pretty blue flowers? are they a common weed or what I may have planted instead?
I haven`t a clue as to what Alfalfa looks like when at an early stage, so could the Speedwell have engulfed the Alfalfa?

          • Don`t be, I have two plots of 5yds x 25yds each, one is planted with green manure while the other is highly productive, that includes weeds ! however, I have made raised beds, this allows me to control what`s growing in them and weeding is a lot easier as the soil is alot more friable and the weeds pull out easily.

I know the feeling; my plot was looking very weedy today due to a longish break from tending it and all the rain. I take lots of before and after pics on my phone to help me see progress. Good luck!

              • I did my own version of weeding this weekend. Move pots, spray with weedkiller, wait two days, return pots to original position

                • Just got back late Sunday night from a week away camping and going to visit the parents for Dad's birthday. Got given a party bag for grown ups to take home- a whole spare cake, a bottle of merlot and a massive selection of plants and cuttings from Mum Mostly they're pretties, but it did include some wild strawberries, and given that I'm in 'bee corner', flowers are very welcome! Today was mostly spent in planting them all out.

The grass is getting a bit too long, I evidently missed a lot of both rain and sun- luckily my housemate watered everything at the house, and everything's in the ground at the lottie bar the watercress, which is in its own mini pond, so it was fine. In fact, most things were going a bit crazy and romping away, though the slugs have clearly had a "While the cat's away.." attitude and nobbled a few of the smaller brassicas.

Oh, and the cucamelons ordered ages ago arrived while I was away, but the aforementioned housemate potted 'em up for me. They look OK, I wait with interest to see what they'll do!

                  • Yesterday younger son came and earned his Morrocan Lamb supper! He shifted all the rubbish within an hour! It would have taken me most of the morning on my own. Then we came home and he mowed the front lawn for me ... back one was still far too wet. Whilst he was barrowing stuff, I planted tomatoes in my new glass shed. Off down there shortly - weather is unexpectedly dry. So off to make hay whilst it is not raining.

                    • I like the sound of your housemate, Hamamelis.

It was weeding, weeding, weeding here too yesterday as like many of us I haven't been able to visit lottie for ages, due to the rain. I enjoyed it: soooo lovely to be outdoors in the sunshine. And the plot looked spic and span when I left.

Must confess I prefer being on the lottie when there isn't another soul down there. Not that I'm unfriendly. I just love being on my own with the birds.

                            • Busy few days at the allotment .. Weeding, potted on chillis and toms, planted squash and pumpkin with DIY bottles for root watering, planted baby Sweetcorn, pulled a few bolted shallots and cut the flowers off the rest. Sowed carrots and spring onion, put a few strawberry runners into pots .. Pheww I think that was it! Currently resting and recovering with a cuppa

                              • If I'm lucky I might get out into the veg patch in the next hour, but I'm not convinced. It's been wet on and off here today and I couldn't get outside while it was dry as I had to get some things done in the house. I did manage a bit of potting on though - several tomatoes, a couple of cucumbers and a basil. Much more potting on still to do - seems I turn my back and things start bursting out of their pots. Oh and I started off a couple more trays of delicious pea shoots.

Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?
