  • Converted some scruffy old decking planks into a potting bench for my shed. Then I used it to pot on chillis, geraniums and wallflowers and to sow a few seeds in pots: radish, anemones, coleus, sweet williams, coreander.

    • Repotted Chinese chives, onions and goji berry. Spotted the beans I planted months ago finally breaking through, even though we searched the soil for them and couldn't find them after they didn't seen to be sprouting! Sat in the garden with a cider this afternoon and enjoyed looking at all my edibles growing strong. I seem to have a natural green thumb, for my first garden I'm very impressed

      • Feeling pleased with the progress on the new allotment. Since Easter I have spent most weekends weeding and planting beds. Not much weeding left to do. Now have potatoes, onions, strawberries, herbs, beans, peas fruit bushes, garlic, sweetcorn, rhubarb and salad. I can't get over how time flies when I'm there. Today I spent some time sorting out the compost heap, it's full of wood lice but I believe that's ok. although popping to a garden centre in the morning I will resist visiting the allotment and spend some time at home.

        • Yesterday afternoon, when the sun came out, I did a lot of potting on. It is now official - I have far too many tomatoes! Regarding your comment Karen

I've noticed this too. I think physicists need to investigate this. I am pretty sure that allotment sites contain warps in the space-time continuum; they certainly contain worm holes. This could be the start of something even more amazing than growing your own veggies.

Wish I could warp back just 5 minutes before I ham fistedly broke the main stem of one of my 2 sungold tomatoes.

            • Managed to find a bit of space and planted out my 3 'First of the field' bush toms.
Pinched out the tops of my Telephone and Purple podded peas because last year they go in a tangled mess and kept escaping out of the netting.
Put the netting over my strawbs now I've spotted a bit of red on one of them.

              • We had a break in the rain, hurrah! So I planted out my final eight tomato plants, the last cucumber and the last melothrie. The other four melothrie already planted out are looking more like melancholy. Still alive but looking pretty lacklustre.

Fed everything that's flowering - like they needed more water.

Potted on aubergine, basil and some unidentified flower bulb thing my mother gave DH years ago and that was terminally pot-bound. It's currently relaxing in its luxurious new surroundings, so we'll see what happens.#

What I didn't do is weed and generally sort out the strawberries, weed the onion & lettuce patch or plant out some pea and bean seedlings. Or do my ironing. Or hoover downstairs.

Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

                • Planted out the sweetcorn Hope it'll be ok. It's quite tall and healthy, so I hope it will escape any snug attack. Only one courgette ready to be planted amongst the corn, so in it went. Watered the tomatoes and potted on 4 my youngest GG sowed. I'm not sure if her interest is waning or she just hasn't got the time to devote to growing Waiting for it to pour down now.

                  • In preparation for a jaunt along Hadrians wall later in the year I donned shorts and sandals and set off to walk the 6 mile to my allotment with a Bergen on my back full of all manner of rubbish........just to get used to the weight.
Changed into my allotment togs and shoes when I got there.
Took some of the bottom leaves of my beefsteak tomatoes so that I could weed inbetween and also to give a bit of airflow around them.
Took the hoops and mesh off the remains of the spring cabbage. Set the hoops up on a new shaded bed I intend planting my thousand head kale into and raked bed ready for planting
Planted out my module grown climbing peas. The peas I planted direct have taken a battering off slugs or possibly mice?
Weeded around the pea and bean bed and fed the weeds to the chooks.
Watered all indoor stuff, got changed in hut and set off for the 6 mile hike home with the bergen on my back.
Decided i asn't carrying enough weights so called in at B&M's and purchased 2 X 2 litre bottles of water.
Bad move, I was knackered when I got home!

rained again, great time for weeding round the leeks
potted some Marigold seeds as I had planted out some seeds in my leek bed and now won`t know what`s Marigold or weed!
Yesterday was a bad day, as I used up some tent canes to keep up the Tomatoe nets I suffered a mild type of dizziness caused by my Hiatus hernia, therefore had to rest rather than get on with things.
Anyone know what this plant is? I like it a lot but never seem to see the plot holder.

                          • Went to the beach.... (in Portugal getting some sun).

Hope my dad is doing a good job on keeping my plants hydrated. Can't wait to get back to them later in the week.

                              • Its an annual but self seeds easily. Look around it for little seedlings or wait till the flowers mature and look for the big round black seeds
