        Then released the "Nutters"

Thank god it's my weekend off! Been a manic week! In need of bed!

        • Cleared and mulched a bed that had potatoes in it this year, put up netting and planted out my spring cabbages. Late but hopefully not too late!

          • Dug over 2 beds and manured them, dug about one third of the big raised bed. You can see where I have been! Went to the physio this morning and had some manipulation and acupuncture on my neck/shoulder. Tender but definitely an improvement - hence the digging!

            • Cleared the last of the peppers from the tunnel, then, made a start on the double lining at one end. I usually leave it until much later and them am trying to work round staging, plants and loads of other stuff. Piece of cake this time!!!

              • Just popped over the plot for a potter ( thats a bit of a tongue twister) as my weekends now last 7 days I'm in no rush

                • Had a good clear up at the lotty. Picked the last of the climbing fb's and cut them down, dug up a couple of chilli plants and transplanted into pots to overwinter and harvested several chillis and peppers.
Surpised to find 5 strawberries ready in the large polytunnel and pulled a few turnips.

Tried in vain to start the rotovator before giving up in disgust and deciding to take it to the lawnmower service centre tomorrow

Came home to find someone on fb selling a petrol generator for £40, so bought that so I can use power tools at the lotty instead of having to use a hand saw - planning to build a new shed from scratch out of an enormous pile of timber I managed to get from someone else on fb for £20

                    Cooking to do!

                    • I've been tidying up at the plot as well. Lifted a row of spuds. Left them on top of the soil to dry and it was dark when I went back to bag them up. Just the Sarpo Mira to take out of the ground now and then it will be trying to gauge when to start the winter digging.

I'd love to be able to grow sausages like that. Sympathise with you re flemmin thieves. We've had a spate of break ins as well and that's despite the pallisade fencing topped with barbed wire and copious amounts of anti climb paint applied.

                        • I spent a happy couple of hours at the allotment, weeding and tidying up one of my brassica beds. The sprouts have been pushing up the netting, so I added a few inches of extra height.

I'm not sure the caulis in there are going to come to much, but I should get some nice sprouts eventually.

Doesn't time fly while you're pottering!

                          • Planted garlic and onions. There were supposed to be 100 red baron sets, but there was way more than that. Ended putting some very close together for spring onions next year.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

                            • Cut the raspberry cans down to ground, was a bit drastic, cos couldn't determine which were 'old' and which were the 'new' canes, so they all got chopped, it had become a complete jungle this year, probably have none next year!

And picked 2 small but perfect cauliflower, a first for me.

                              • - planted out the holly seedlings that are self-sown
                                - took 20 hardwood holly cuttings to complete the hedge
                                - spread dry autumn leaves on the lawn before mowing: all the clippings go straight on empty beds as a mulch, or tied up in black sacks to make leafmould
