Pricked out yet more Basil, some of the staff at work would like some. Good job, I've got loads.

Assisted by the grandchildren (they are really getting into the "planting thing"!), planted Autumn Mammoth Leek, Crown Prince Pumpkin and Sweet Dumpling Squash.
They also helped weed an empty bed. Very efficient, not a scrap of green was missed.
Lowen's verdict upon leaving. "Your 'lottment is great, Nanny Raine!"When the Devil gives you Cowpats - make Satanic Compost!

Pricked out 150 celery plants, followed by digging up 80 strawberry plants for a newbie allotmenteer. Believe it or not that little lot took all afternoon.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Planted out a few more pumpkins, and potted on some toms at home. Realised the set of modules I planted mangetout seedlings a week or so ago in was not, in fact, freshly filled with compost, as evidenced by the dirty great bean plants sticking their heads up in there as well. Oops. I'd been looking at them for ten minutes, then at the pea label, then back at the plants, before I finally realised what had happened. I'm off the coffee at the moment- that's my excuse.
Went down the lottie, had a skirmish with the bindweed and realised the 'parsnip' seedlings (or at least the majority of them) are not, in fact, parsnips- they're weeds, of a kind which have managed to grow almost exactly where I planted parsnip seeds, and almost nowhere else. Sneaky beggars... I should not be outwitted by plants; maybe I should start drinking coffee again.
Watched the storm clouds roll in and completely surround the little overhead patch of blue, and beat a hasty retreat just before the rain started.

Sowed more chillis since my two decided to keel over. So much guilt! Feelings of failure! I remember saying they were like pets, but you know, I swear it's worse. Cuz they're basically imprisoned, unable to escape from you, and that makes it so much worse.

Removed dead Euonymus tree, (this was only 3ish years old? Did dog’s pee on it and rubbing against it kill it? lol ) dug and weeded around and re supported/staked up Fairy Rose, pruning dead wood, any left over (tiny!) rosehips. Dug up and removed Gladioli bulbs by pond to re pot in container away from dog.
Bit too wet to mown other lawns today?
Need to dig in sand to improve soil in that bed?
Added teabags, envelopes and newspaper to compost bin
Took about 7 bags of garden waste down to tip
Buried tiny dead baby bird found on path - puzzled as near Willow tree but no nests there, but a lot of fighting between birds over territory at moment,Last edited by GardenFaery; 13-04-2012, 08:51 PM.

Dodging in and out of the rain to put up my runner bean strings. Cut some string into shortish lengths and separated them out before tying them in a bunch for the birds to tug on and use for their nests. At least that's what they did last year when they pecked through my strings so that they constantly ended up on the ground.
Covered the ground where I am intending to put my sweetcorn to warm it up. Covered it with my large cloche (Best laid plans and all that. It's about 10" short and wont cover the last row so I'll have to bodge something !)

Cleared next door's garden border of weed, turned it and planted last of spuds. Mr VVG edged their lawn area. Marvelled at the blue skies against lime hedges and yellow rapeseed fields.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Spent a minute grumbling over the darn aubergines (all five pots of them) where NONE has germinated. Bahhh. Not sure if I have the patience to try again, considering I don't even like them for eating!
My pattypans, courgettes (all three varieties) and some more tomatoes have germinated very well. That will do me!
